Happy Friday Gooners. The matches continue to come thick and fast, as we are back at the Emirates to face Bournemouth tomorrow.
The Cherries have struggled this season and currently sit in 19th in the table on 21 points. We went to the Vitality Stadium and beat them 0-3 earlier in the campaign thanks to two goals from Martin Odegaard and one goal from William Saliba. They took a hammering from Man City last weekend, so the prospect of now coming to London to face us must be quite daunting. I would imagine they are going to sit back in the low block approach that has frustrated us over the course of the season. It’s all about our ability to unlock them, hopefully sooner rather than later, so they have to come out and play actual football. From there we should have the necessary room to operate and make them pay.
One player who looks to be a doubt for the weekend is Eddie Nketiah, as he is struggling with a knock according to Mikel Arteta. With the congested schedule ahead of us it would be sensible to give him a full rest this weekend, especially given the form of Leandro Trossard who fully deserves to keep his place even if Eddie was fully fit. Trossard seems to be the better fit for us when going against a low block anyways, so one would think we should be able to get the job done with him in the XI. I am expecting the following lineup:
Ramsdale
White Saliba Gabriel Zinchenko
Partey Xhaka
Saka Odegaard Martinelli
Trossard
It sounds like Jorginho has recovered from the illness that plagued him earlier in the week, but if Thomas Partey is fit you’d expect him to come back in. The difference when he entered the fray in the second half of the Everton match was immense. It’s nothing against Jorginho, Partey is just on a different level to just about anybody in the league when it comes to playing that role.
